Regional Minister is taking advantage of Mayor’s absence to champion his agenda
The Assemblymember for Airport Ridge electoral area in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis says the Western Regional Minster is taking advantage of the Mayor’s absence to champion his agenda.
Speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Thursday, July 21, Mr Michael Duku indicated that even though Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah is the acting mayor of the Metropolis due to Abdul Mumin’s absence, he is taking advantage of it to make unpleasant moves.
According to him, assembly members who are to take charge of the distribution of street lights in electoral areas have been sidelined.
Also, the Regional Minister is claiming that the distribution of the street lights is his initiative and he is funding it as well.
he said, “During the distribution process at my electoral area, I was present but was never acknowledged, I know this is politics but we need to address what is not right.”
“I confronted him on why he did not acknowledge me at the presentation which he told me; why must he acknowledge me to take the glory?… I responded by saying this is a state project and me being the leader of the community must be acknowledged.”
“Some of the residents who heard his response were not happy with it.”
He alleged that the Regional Minister is spreading false information.
“I have documents that prove that the STMA made provisions for these street lights from the Ministry of Energy, about 8000 pieces of street light which when received will be distributed the electoral area at the Assembly’s cost.”
Mr Duku also said the Regional Minister has diverted some of the lights for his own agenda and has not fully distributed the number of lights each electoral area deserves.
He said they are challenging his position as the acting mayor and not the MP and he has been exposed for his dubious deals.
The Regional Minister is yet to respond to these allegations.
