Russia has lost 15,000 troops in the Ukraine war so far
The Head of the US Central Intelligence Agency estimates that some 15,000 troops have already died on the Russian side since Moscow invaded Ukraine.
Since the start of the war, three times as many Russians are believed to have been injured, CIA director William Burns made this known during the security conference in the US city of Aspen.
“The Ukrainians have suffered as well, probably a little less than that,” Burns said on Wednesday evening.
Russia has not revealed any information related to current figures of casualties on its side.
The CIA director said at the security conference that the massing of Russian forces in the eastern Donbass region, which includes Luhansk and Donetsk, suggests, at least for now, that the Russian military has learned from its failures at the beginning of the war.
Russia attempted to take over the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, earlier in the invasion without success.
Also, the Russian troops have moved back into a more comfortable position, using its advantage and long-range firepower to effectively destroy Ukrainian targets, he explained
He said, this is how Moscow is compensating for the weaknesses it still has among its military ranks, Burns added.
