Takoradi missing‘pregnant’woman: Take Police statement with a pinch of salt – Amaliba

The Director of the Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba has admonished the Ghanaian public to be skeptic about the statement made public by the Ghana Police Service concerning the Takoradi missing but found ‘pregnant’ woman.

According to him, fact in the public domain does not support the report put out there by the police service and hinted of a possible cover up to save the minister for making public the woman was not pregnant ahead of investigations.

Mr Amaliba made the comment on TV3 NewDay on Thursday, September 23 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

He explained it was not possible for the entire community to conspire with the 28-year-old woman to deceive the country adding “It doesn’t mean that because the statement is coming from the police, we should take it hook, line and sinker without interrogating the statement”.

“Are we saying that all these community members conspired with the woman to lie that she was pregnant? All these community members and that is why I sitting here is saying that this statement must be taken with a pinch of salt because the fact as we know them do not support this statement and I think that this is another cover up. This must be exposed. It doesn’t mean that because the statement is coming from the police, we should take it hook, line and sinker without interrogating the statement,” he said.

The NDC member was reacting to report the Ghana Police Service had declared as suspect the pregnant woman, Ms Josephine Panyin Mensah, who was reported missing at Takoradi and found in Axim.

A statement from the Ghana Police Service sighted by GhanaPlus.com and signed by Acting Director–General, Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ASP), Kwesi Ofori said finding of preliminary investigations  has suggested Ms Mensah was never pregnant hence the decision to declare her a suspect in her very own kidnapping case.

The statement further stated investigations have also revealed the woman may have conspired with another over a possible planned disappearance.

Four persons including her husband and mother have been arrested to assist with investigations into the development.
