Three districts to benefit from Red Cross Water Project in Central Region

The Central Regional Office of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) has pledged its commitment to assisting three districts with mechanised boreholes by the end of 2022.

The water project, funded by the Swiss Red Cross, will be implemented nationwide.

The beneficiary districts are the Asikuma-Odeben- Brakwa (AOB), Ajumako- Enyan-Essiam (AEE), and Gomoa West.

Mr Mohamed Baidoo, the Acting Central Regional Director of the GRCS, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the project would help address the challenges of water scarcity in beneficiary districts upon completion.

It would be a direct response to the need to promote sustainability and accessible potable water in the region and beyond.

Mr Baidoo said his outfit and its partners were working around the clock to ensure the completion of the project by close of the year.

“Many regions have had their fair share of the project and so Central Region would not be an exception, we desire to be the solution to water shortages in our region,” he said.

On COVID-19, Mr Baidoo said the GRCS had collaborated with the Ghana Health Service to clarify the notion that the pandemic was no longer in existence.

He said the GRCS, within the collaboration, had trained 28 volunteers in the Cape Coast Metropolis, Twifo- Hemang-Lower-Denkyira and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese districts to assist.

“ It is still relevant to sensitise communities on the need to vaccinate against the virus and desist from stigmatising recovered COVID-19 patients.”

“We are doing this to ensure that our society is free, equal and conducive for all and sundry and to ensure that we record zero COVID-19 cases in times ahead.”

Touching on the Strategic Approach to Girls Education (STAGE) Project, Mr Baidoo noted that AOB was training marginalised girls in literacy and vocational skills this year and shared his joy over the level of commitment by beneficiaries.

Tracking the progress in its eighth week, he lauded master crafts persons and facilitators for their hardwork and unflinching support to the project.

“I am surprised of the progress, I know their impact would be felt on their families and society at large, I will urge beneficiaries to hold on to their studies so that they can become useful to themselves and society.”
