We are prepared to protect Ghanaians and the Ballot – Security Services

The Inspector-General of the Ghana Police Service James Oppong Boanuh has said the Ghana Police service together with its sister security agencies are ready to protect the ballot and Ghanaians most especially, before, during, and after the December 7, elections.

“We are prepared to deal with any eventuality; anything that will come. We as a department we are prepared to protect the ballot and protect Ghanaian citizens alike. While doing so, we are also going to ensure that the normal peace and security operations will go on”.

The IGP was addressing personals of the various security services at the Independence Square in Accra during a peace sensitization programme earlier today, in Accra.

The Peace March

Personnel from the country’s security services including the Police Service, Armed Forces, Prison Service, National Fire Service, Immigration Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, National Intelligence Bureau, and the National Ambulance Service on Wednesday, November 26, 2020, embarked a sensitization campaign to emphasis their readiness ahead of the December polls.

The campaign dubbed “Exercise TAFIA LAFIYA” was held concurrently in all Regional capital and its surrounding community to drum home the security services preparedness as far as the December elections was a concern.

It was also to send home a warning to miscreants who had intentions to take advantage of the elections to destroy the peace enjoyed by the country.

Our Presence is not to intimidate Ghanaians

He indicated that the presence of the security services all across the country prior to the elections, some eleven days away was not to intimidate Ghanaians but to protect them as duty and the constitution demands.

Mr Oppong Boanuh urged officers of the security services to conduct themselves professionally in the execution of their duties to earn the trust of the public which the constitution entrusted their safety in the hands.

“Let us remain steadfast, let us remain professional and ensure that whatever we do Ghana first, Ghana is the only country we have, let us ensure that we are discipline, we are professional, we are impartial so that the citizens we are protecting will have confidence in us”.

Other hierarchy from sister security services who spoke at the event, said they were ready as a force to nip in the bud any persons who try to disturb the peace of the country irrespective of who and charged Ghanaians to join in the shared responsibility to protect the country’s peace.
