Western Regional MMT Director calls on workers to consider company’s struggle and resume work
Workers of Metro Mass Transit Limited are calling for their Managing Director and his 2 deputies to be removed because of persistent problems in the company since 2018 that continue to worsen the plight of the entire workforce.
The Senior Staff Chairman in Western Region, Mr Dennis Fosu speaking to Skyy News indicated that due to this demand, they have joined their colleagues in the rest of the 15 regions to embark on a nationwide sit-down strike.
According to him, they are yet to receive 2 months of unpaid wages, payment of the Cidan loan deduction has mostly halted and are under very poor working conditions which have brought untold hardship upon the entire workforce.
The Western Regional Director for Metro Mass Transit Mr David Tei Takutey urged striking workers to consider the company’s struggles and the current economic hardship confronting the nation.
Mr Takutey said that the managing directors are not necessarily the problem but the problems are evident for everyone to see as the astronomical fuel prices are having a serious effect on the transport industry.
“It is not mainly about the incompetence of anybody in power but there are a lot of economic factors that are pushing the system.”
“When we wanted to increase fares about a week ago to cushion the company and the workers, the diesel prices dropped globally but the layman will not understand why we want to adjust our fares whiles fuel prices have reduced which became a problem for us.”
“We are waiting to see how the whole thing will unfold, in our transport industry the fuel alone to revenue is over 60% which is a challenge, I am pleading with my workers to exercise patience and resume work”
