A political Analyst and a former Member of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Desmond Twumasi-Ntow has quizzed the rationale behind the President desire to hire a private jet for his travels instead of using the country’s presidential jet.
Speaking on Pan African TV’s current Affairs programme, Good Morning Africa, he said “People are saying don’t use rented jet to travel, you have done it the first time, people are talking about it, you have gone ahead to do the second time and what is it in the skies that you always want to rent a jet and go up there and see?”.
Guinea Coup
Mr Twumasi-Ntow made the comment while contributing to discussions about the overthrow of the Guinean President, Alpha Condé over the weekend monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Monday, September 6.
According to him, such abuse of office was what triggered the development in Guinea and many other countries, including Mali which had seen political impasses in recent times.
He noted the Guinean President, was responsible for his own downfall because he failed to listen to his people hence deserve what had happened to him and the manner he had been handled by the country’s military forces.
What happened in Guinea can happen in Ghana
He indicated although, Ghana was not yet at a point of coup, such could happen in the country adding Ghanaians were experiencing same difficulties experienced by the Guineans, the very reason for the coup.
“….. Look at the amount you spent, meanwhile UTAG is at the corner trying to go on strike, University Senior Staff Workers are agitating, you said you will not listen. Me, I pray some of these things does not happen in Ghana like a coup d’état,” he said.
Akufo-Addo’s luxurious travels
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in a matter of 3month has embarked on two luxurious trips, a development Ghanaians have widely criticized.
The first was a £15,000 per hour nine-day visit to France, Belgium, South Africa, and back to the country while the second was a £14,000 per hour trip to Germany.
