Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah on Wednesday, January 10 inspected the progress of works at the Takoradi Oil and Gas Services Terminal currently ongoing at the Port of Takoradi, which forms part of expansion works to make the port more competitive.
The oil and gas services terminal being developed will provide 21 hectares of serviced terminal area and a 550-metre primary quay wall facility. The quay area will provide a 10m water depth at berths and a 40-metre quay apron for terminal operations.
The serviced terminal area is being developed to accommodate oil and gas services providers, fabrication companies, exploration company partners and their suppliers for supply base activities. The total project cost is approximately US$ 98 million and is being financed by the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA), to be completed by September 2024.
Hon. Darko-Mensah who doubles as Member of Parliament for Takoradi also took the opportunity to visit the Dry Bulk Terminal which was inaugurated in December 2022 by H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo which has now drastically reduced loading time from 14 days to 4 days.
“You have seen the kind of investment that government have done in the Takoradi Port, and the work that they are being put to…it clearly shows that we know what we are about as a government to create more productivity and also create more job opportunities for the good people of Takoradi and the Western Region, and Ghana as a whole, so I am very impressed”, he said.
He further explained that there are a good number of terminals under construction which includes, including Atlantic Terminal Services, a container terminal development which forms part of the container and multi-purpose terminal concession partnership between GPHA, IbisTek Limited, and AFC-Equity of the Africa Finance Corporation and the prime meridian docks, a private investment for ship and rig repairs in the Port of Takoradi,
