2021 Ghana-EU political dialogue meeting held in Accra
Ghana and the European Union (EU) Delegation to Ghana, have held their 2021 Session of the periodic Political Dialogues meeting in Accra.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the meeting was chaired on the Ghana side by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and on the EU side by the Head of its Delegation to Ghana, Mr Irchad
Razaaly.
It said as Ghana’s largest multilateral development and trade partner, the EU and its Member States currently financed about half of all Official Development Assistance (ODA) received by the Ghanaian Government.
The statement noted that formalised cooperation between Ghana and the EU started after the first Lome Convention in 1975 and that the two parties had enjoyed fruitful economic and political exchanges, which had improved over the years.
It said the 2021 Ghana-EU Political Dialogue brought together all the relevant national stakeholders in Ministries, Departments and Agencies and representatives of the EU Member Countries accredited to Ghana to discuss issues of mutual interest in thematic areas, such as Implementation of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), Business Climate, Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, Sustainable Cocoa Production, and Regional Development.
The rest are Dynamics and Stability (including the Role of the EU and Ghana), Climate Diplomacy and COP 26, Government, Democracy, Business and Human Rights, the Neighbourhood Development International Cooperation Instrument (NDCI) and Cooperation in Consular matters.
It also discussed International Instruments and the safety of journalists.
“It is envisaged that the discussions held at the 2021 Political Dialogue would further strengthen the existing cordial relations between Ghana and the EU and address perceived challenges for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.”
