Vida Essel-LampteyA member of the New Patriotic Party and Member of Parliament for the New Juaben South Constituency, Mr Michael Okyere Baafi has asked Ghanaians to reject claims that the 2022 budget has been rejected.
That according to him, per the standing orders of the house, Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Bagbin requires at least 138 members present before he can put a question.
He added any decision taken contrary to the standing orders is not valid.
Mr Okyere Baafi made the comment in a Facebook post sighted by GhanaPlus.com on November 26, hours after report went round that Parliament has rejected the 2022 budget.
“Order 109 says the Speaker requires 138 members at least before he can put a question. He may have a quorum to take questions and statements but he needs 138 to put a question,” Mr Okyere Baafi said.
“Any decision that is taken with less than 138 people in the chamber is void”.
“Ghanaians should disregard the claim that the budget is rejected,” he added.
