Vida Essel-LampteyThe former Member of Parliament for the Builsa North Constituency, Mr Timothy Ataboadey Awontiirim has taken a swipe at African leaders including the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for portraying two different lifestyle prior to their elections into office and afterwards.
According to him, the leaders parade themselves as ordinary people when soliciting votes from the people and behave otherwise when the power they sought had been granted by same.
Mr Awontiirim made the comment on Pan African Television’s Good Morning Africa on Thursday, August 12, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

He was contributing to discussions about Zambia’s elections held earlier today, Thursday, August 12, 2021.
He noted Zambia like Ghana had been bedeviled with series of societal challenges including lack of jobs for the youth and noted the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo prior to the elections used to dine with the ordinary folks but now bath in planes.
“…………..and I believe as leaders not just as Zambians but even in Africa here, we do come to the ordinary people at the end of the day to request for their votes but when we finally gain the post and we come into office, we do otherwise”.
“We have seen people who parade themselves as ordinary when they are looking for the power, when the power is finally given to them, you cannot even get nearer to them to remind them of the promises they stood before you and it has been running through.
“ Even in this country, I remember when we were doing our campaigns, the current President told us he was going to protect our public purse, he is too old to steal from the public, a whole lot of jargons and he was even eating at the village level with the farmers and ordinary people on the street and so on, he was taking Kalypo and so on, today as we sit , our president is bathing in planes.”
He explains citizens over the years had voted with the expectation for a better life but the same had never been achieved.
He was however, hopeful that Zambians would choose a suitable leader who would help alleviate their plight and give them a better life they deserve.
