Senior New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure Dr. Arthur Kennedy has intensified his critique of the party’s response to its 2024 election defeat, alleging former President Nana Akufo-Addo engaged in scapegoating while condemning opportunistic maneuvers by former appointees.

In a sharply worded open letter released this week, Kennedy described a culture of deflection gripping the party after its loss to John Mahama’s National Democratic Congress.

Kennedy specifically cited unnamed sources claiming Akufo-Addo had “search[ed] for someone to blame” for his administration’s failures. He criticized former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and other appointees who remained silent during Akufo-Addo’s presidency but later joined public criticism, calling it “the Ghanaian habit of speaking freely when people are no longer in power.”

The letter condemned the NPP’s alleged suppression of internal dissent, comparing it to a “Fatwa” against truth-tellers. Kennedy also questioned the party leadership’s decision to prioritize selecting a 2028 flagbearer before addressing its own expired mandate, labeling it a “disgraceful” avoidance of accountability.

In his most incendiary remarks, Kennedy accused certain former officials of seeking the presidency to resume what he termed an unfinished “Galamsey-Cathedral-Looting-Impunity agenda.” He asserted that in functional democracies, such individuals “would be facing prosecution, not eyeing the highest office,” while clarifying that not all former appointees were corrupt.

Kennedy concluded by demanding a transparent accountability process to distinguish legitimate public servants from opportunists, stressing: “Those who are rich must be honestly rich and those who claim rich ideas truly have good ideas.” His intervention comes as the NPP navigates opposition status under President Mahama’s administration ahead of Ghana’s 2028 elections.
