Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has sharply differentiated himself from his main rival, former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in advance of the upcoming general elections.

During a community engagement on August 21, 2024, in the Ofoase-Ayirebi constituency of the Eastern Region, Bawumia framed his candidacy as a choice for a “brand new, tear-rubber president” with innovative ideas to address Ghana’s issues.

He contrasted this with Mahama’s previous presidency, described as “second-hand” and a failure.

“I am not a President, so if you vote for me, you will get a brand-new tear-rubber president.

But if you vote for John Dramani Mahama, you get a second-hand failed president,” Bawumia declared.

He urged voters to choose his leadership, stating, “Do you want a brand new or second-hand? If you want a brand new, then vote for Bawumia and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.”
