Vida Essel-LampteyThe former Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for the Gomoa West Constituency, Ms Ama Benyiwa-Doe has been reported dead.
The National Democratic Party(NDC)’s stalwart and former women organizer of the party, report said died on Sunday, September 19 dawn at age 71.
Sharing the news of her passing in a twitter post sighted by GhanaPlus.com, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, said her dead was a great loss to the nation.
“The sad news filtering in is that, one of Ghana’s colossus of a female politician, the Crème de la crème of all NDC women Organizers, the onetime Central Regional Minister, the Hon. Ama Benyiwa-Doe, has passed away this dawn. Such a great loss to the Nation. Our condolences”.

Profile of Ama Benyiwa-Doe
Ama Benyiwa –Doe as affectionately known in Ghana’s political circles was born Comfort Saah in 1950.
Ama attended L.A Middle School where she obtained her GCE Ordinary Level certificate and further her education at the Accra Workers College for her GCE Advance Level certificate.
After her GCE Advance certificate she proceeded to the M.I Kaliun School where she graduated with a diploma degree.
Political life
In 1992, she was elected Member of Parliament for the Gomoa West Constituency on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and won same in 1996 and 2000 respectively.
In 2009, the NDC colossus was appointed Central Regional Minister by the late President of Ghana Prof John Evan Fiifi Atta-Mills, a ministerial position she held up until 2012.
Ama Benyiwa-Doe also serve the country as a member of the Council of State, an advisory body, responsible for advising the President on national issues.
