Vida Essel-LampteyThe Youth Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) has called on the Ghana Police Service to bring to book persons responsible for the death of Kaaka Anyass Ibrahim, a member of the #FixTheCountry campaign who died after a mob attack.
A statement dated June 29th and signed by the National Youth Organiser of the party, Mr George Opare Addo said no Ghanaian deserves to suffer for demanding a better Ghana.
The group condemned the attack which led to the death of the young man and called on the Ghana Police Service not to threat the case as they had done with previous murder cases.
“We condemn his murder and demand his murderers and their paymaster to be brought to justice. This police service must not treat this like it is business as usual because we will not tolerate it. The death of one Ghanaian is the death of all,” the statement said.
Kaaka’s death an indictment on the Ghana Police Service
They indicated the death of Kaaka was an indictment on the Ghana Police Service since it failed to protect the deceased despite complaint made to the service about threat on his.
“It is appalling to note that prior to his death the late Kaaka received several death threat but the Police did not act on it. It is an indictment on the Ghana Police Service that while they should be following up on such serious issues, they are more occupied preventing harmless citizens from exercising their constitutional right with frivolous law suits”.
“No one must suffer any harm because they dared to speak up and demand a better Ghana. It is unacceptable for a government that rode on the back of harsh criticism and demonstrations to power will be averred to same when it is in government. What changed ? Is our president no longer a champion of human right?” the statement said.
