The Political Affairs Director of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Lawyer Kwame Jantuah has listed two things he is expecting from the Minister of Finance, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta as he faces the Ad-Hoc Committee of Parliament to respond to the Vote of Censure against him for poor management of the economy.

Speaking on TV3 NewDay monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Friday, November 18, Mr Jantuah said he is expecting his evidence to be beyond unreasonable doubt.

The renowned Energy Expert and Legal Practitioner is of the view, anything less will affect the minister’s credibility and his negotiations with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) and also have dire consequences on investor confidence in the country’s economy.

Mr Jantuah is also expecting Mr Ofori-Atta to use the platform to tender in his resignation as the country’s Minister of Finance.

Two things, first the finance Minister should come and his evidence should be beyond all reasonable doubt, water tight, where nobody can punch holes into his evidence. Water tight,” he said.

“Two things, for me his evident should be beyond reasonable, no doubt whatsoever,” Mr Jantuah emphasized.

“No. 2. If he comes, he should use that platform to tell Ghanaians he is resigning,” he added.

Minority pass vote of censure against Ofori-Atta

Lawyer Kwame Jantuah was contributing to discussions on the minister’s appearance before the committee today to respond to a vote of censure passed by the Minority to remove him out of office.

Bent on removing the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta over the country’s economic difficulties in recent times, the Minority caucus on November 10, passed a vote of censure against him.

They among other things accused Mr Ofori-Atta of despicable conflict of interest, unconstitutional withdrawal from the consolidated fund, illegal payment of oil revenue into offshore accounts, deliberate and dishonest misrepresentation of economic figures to Parliament, fiscal recklessness leading to the crash of the Ghana Cedi, alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude as well as gross mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy as their reasons.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin upon admitting the motion, set up a seven-member committee to investigate the motion and also give the minister a fair hearing.

Mr Ken Ofori-Atta is currently before the committee responding to the allegations.
