New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, appeared at the party’s national headquarters in Accra on June 3 following his release from detention.

Wontumi had been held for one week by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in connection with fraud and money laundering investigations.

He was granted bail on June 2 under a GHC50 million bond with two sureties, though no formal charges have been filed. Supporters greeted his arrival at party offices, where he thanked members for solidarity during what he termed a “difficult period.” Wontumi specifically acknowledged NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong for leadership support.

His public appearance contrasted with footage from his release day, when he moved with visible discomfort. Investigations by EOCO remain ongoing with no confirmed timeline for resolution.
