Corruption has become a beauty pageant under Akufo, CDD 62% finding understated it

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has said the survey finding reported by the Centre for Democratic Development Ghana (CDD-Ghana) on corruption under the Akufo-Addo government was understated.

Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Wednesday, September 1, monitored by GhanaPlus.com he said corruption has become a beauty pageant under this current government and that the number should have been higher than reported.

He stated the 62% mentioned by the survey finding do not in any way represent the realities on the ground adding that he believe strongly the findings understated the extent of corruption and mismanagement of the country finances.

“I strongly believe that the findings of the CDD report in some respect understated the extent of graft corruption and the mismanagement of the financial resources of this country. Now to put the numbers at a little over 62 % for me, is an understatement of the extent.Look the numbers are higher than that,” he said.

“Look like we said, corruption has become a beauty pageant under this administration,” he added.

Mr Edudzi Tamakloe made the comment when reacting to the CDD survey report that 62 % of Ghanaians do not  believe in the ability of the  government to fight corruption and impunity by its officials in the next four years.

The report also revealed some 53 percent of the population are not confident in Government’s ability to protect the country’s financial resources by promoting accountability in public service.

The member of the NDC’s legal team said irregularities alone under this government amounted to some 12. 8billion as at December 2020, a figure much higher than that of 2016 figure of 718million hence he believe the report understated the extent of corruption in the country.
