Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to Consult Chiefs on Policy Decisions if Elected
Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has announced that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, plans to consult with traditional chiefs before implementing significant policies if elected president on January 7, 2025.
Speaking during a campaign tour in Tepa, Ashanti Region, Prempeh emphasized that Bawumia’s administration would treat traditional leaders with substantial respect and involve them in policy-making processes.
“Dr. Bawumia has instructed me to convey that his government will ensure that suggestions from the chiefs are sought before any major policies are introduced,” Prempeh stated.
“He also plans to implement policies and programs enabling our esteemed chiefs to play an active role in the country’s development.”
Prempeh noted that Dr. Bawumia recognizes the underutilization of traditional leaders in national affairs and believes their contributions are crucial for effective governance.
“Dr Bawumia has observed that the voices of traditional leaders are not sufficiently heard in national matters and sees the need to integrate them more meaningfully into the governance framework,” he added.
The former Manhyia South Member of Parliament highlighted the unique role of chiefs in societal development and stressed the importance of supporting them to enhance their contributions to national growth.
He also assured that the Bawumia administration would provide the necessary support to chiefs to enable them to perform their duties effectively and urged them to pray for the NPP’s success in the upcoming elections.
