Edudzi Questions Akufo-Addo’s Accountability in Light of Airbus Scandal

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, Director of Legal Affairs for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised a significant question about the level of accountability applied to different political figures in Ghana.

In an interview on TV3’s Key Points, Edudzi questioned whether President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would be subject to the same level of scrutiny as former President John Dramani Mahama has been regarding the Airbus bribery scandal.

Eddie emphasized that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) found no evidence of Mahama’s wrongdoing despite his identification as ‘Government Official One’.

“All the facts, as put out by the OSP, pointed to no evidence of wrongdoing against former President John Dramani Mahama,” he stated.

He praised Mahama for cooperating with investigative bodies, noting that he has subjected himself to years of scrutiny and has emerged without any charges.

Edudzi contrasted this with the current administration, suggesting that future investigations into President Akufo-Addo and his officials should be met with the same level of accountability and transparency.

“I want to use your platform to say that let nobody, tomorrow, raise the question of witch-hunting if any relative, past or present, is invited for questioning,” he said.

“Can Akufo-Addo now subject himself to the level of scrutiny that they have subjected Mahama and his relatives?”

The Airbus scandal, which involved bribery schemes to secure aircraft contracts with Ghana, has been a significant point of contention.

Despite the detailed investigation and the identification of Mahama in the context of the scandal, the OSP’s report concluded that there was no evidence implicating him directly in corrupt activities.

Edudzi’s comments reflect ongoing concerns about political accountability and fairness in handling corruption cases.

His call for consistent scrutiny across different administrations highlights the need for impartiality in the fight against corruption in Ghana.
