Political analyst Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng has questioned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to rerun parliamentary elections across 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North Constituency.

During a July 9 interview on Morning Starr, Dr. Boateng emphasized credibility issues surrounding the electoral process, particularly the integrity of official pink sheets. He stated the rerun follows unresolved challenges from the initial vote, including documentation flaws.

Dr. Boateng specifically alleged irregularities in the pink sheets used for 16 of the 19 polling stations. Citing discussions with an EC officer, he claimed these documents were photocopies rather than original records. This revelation casts doubt on procedural compliance, as original pink sheets are mandatory for result collation under Ghanaian electoral law.

Further complications arose during the collation process, even after a High Court directive mandated the EC to finalize results. Dr. Boateng noted operational setbacks persisted post-ruling, preventing timely completion. The EC had previously assured Parliament of resolving logistical hurdles, yet collation efforts remain stalled amid these documentation and procedural disputes.

The rerun, now mired in controversy, highlights systemic challenges within electoral oversight. Stakeholders await the EC’s formal response to these allegations, which could impact voter confidence ahead of future elections.
