Faalong Questions Bawumia’s Credibility Over Failure to Resign
National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team member Nuong Faalong has challenged former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s credibility during an interview on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV.
Faalong argued that Bawumia should have resigned from his position if he recognized that he and former President Nana Akufo-Addo were failing to deliver on their promises to Ghanaians.
Speaking on the morning program monitored, Faalong rejected claims by Bawumia that he lacked sufficient power to implement changes during his tenure as Vice President.
“I don’t believe he claims he didn’t have power. He is the one trying to convince us that he did not have that much power,” she said. “If at any point he had come out to say, ‘I am resigning from my position because I am not able to implement the promises I made to Ghanaians,’ it would have been honest.”
Faalong emphasized that political leaders must provide tangible results rather than empty rhetoric to earn the trust of voters. She noted that Ghanaians have become more discerning in evaluating their leaders based on economic impact and actual service delivery.
“To win the trust of Ghanaians, you have to give them tangible reasons, not just rhetoric,” Faalong stated. “It’s going to be judged on performance against rhetoric.”
Internal Party Dynamics
The NDC communicator also revealed tensions within her party regarding Bawumia’s political trajectory. According to Faalong, some elements within the NDC reportedly preferred Kennedy Agyapong to win the recent New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.
“I have to be fair, some elements within the NDC wanted Ken to win this election because they fear Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” she explained.
Faalong acknowledged lingering resentment among some party members over how Bawumia treated President John Dramani Mahama in previous political encounters.
“Some people still harbor ill feelings about the way he treated the current president, and they’ve been looking for an opportunity for him to fall,” she said.
However, she dismissed concerns that the NDC interfered in the NPP primaries, noting that Bawumia is the same candidate the NDC defeated in the December 2024 general elections.
Call for Political Decorum
Faalong also criticized the culture of personal attacks in Ghanaian politics, urging leaders to focus on substantive policy debates rather than insults and name-calling.
“We need to move away from a politics of name-calling, personal attacks, insults on individuals and their personalities,” she said. “Descending into the gutter is never the right way to go about it.”
She warned that the rise of artificial intelligence and disinformation makes accountability and fact-based political discourse more critical than ever.
Bawumia won the NPP presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, securing 56.48 percent of the vote to become the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. Kennedy Agyapong placed second with 23.76 percent of the vote.
