“Forgiveness Is Freedom” – Joe Ghartey Rallies NPP in Central Region to Close Ranks Ahead of 2028

Hon. Joe Ghartey, a former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to bury their differences, and rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ensure victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.

Specifically, Hon. Ghartey, the NPP’s longest-serving Member of Parliament (MP) for the Essikado-Ketan Constituency, appealed to
members of the New Patriotic Party in the Central Region to form a united front for the best interest of the party.

Hon. Ghartey made the appeal while delivering a speech at an NPP reconciliation forum held at the Pempamsie Hotel in Cape Coast.

NPP executives and grassroots organizers attended the reconciliation forum.

The forum was an open and soul-searching engagement aimed at mending strained relationships within the party.

In his keynote address, Hon. Ghartey underscored the need for humility, introspection, and collective responsibility.

He told the gathering:
“None of us is perfect. We all have made mistakes. But if we do not forgive one another, we are prisoners of our own grievances.”

Drawing from Scripture, the experienced politician and former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament cited John Chapter 8 and recounted the story of the adulterous woman, reminding members that Jesus challenged the crowd ready to stone her by asking that the first person without a sin should cast the first stone. Referencing Matthew Chapter 18, he added that believers are instructed to forgive 77 × 7 — a lesson he interpreted as a call to limitless forgiveness.

Ghartey stressed that unresolved tensions could weaken the party’s electoral fortunes if not addressed decisively.

According to him, reconciliation begins at the personal level before it can translate into broader party cohesion.

“We have to forgive ourselves first, then extend that forgiveness to others. Only then can we move forward as a party,” he added.

Visit to Bawumia

Ahead of the Central Region engagement, Hon. Ghartey had paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Bawumia at his residence in Accra, where he congratulated him on his recent electoral victories.

The two held a “deep and fruitful discussion” centered on strategies to strengthen unity and energize the party’s base.
