Vida Essel-LampteyFormer Acting General Secretary and ardent supporter of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bomfeh, known in the political sphere as Kabila has disclosed that he has forfeited his membership of the CPP.
His decision to quit his long-serving party, he said was in connection with a declaration he recently made on live radio to support and campaign for the ruling President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for the many successes choked in his four-year term in office.
According to him, per the CPP’s principles and rules, one automatically forfeits his/her membership and position in the party, the moment he/she throws his/her support openly behind another party or leader other than the CPP.
Mr. Bomfeh made the revelation on Hello FM’s election flagship program Decision Time on Thursday, November, 19 and monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
I forfeited my Membership the day I threw my support behind Nana Addo
“If my mind serves me right, I am a party member who knows the party’s rules and principles, and our party’s rules and laws dictate that if at any point in time you have any strong conviction to support somebody who is not a member of the party, you have forfeited your position and membership of the party”.
“So the day I open my mouth to declare that Nana Addo Dankwa has done certain things that need to be supported and that I will go and campaign for him, I first said it on Kwame Sefa Kai’s programme, that day, I forfeited my membership of the CPP”, he added.
Kabila, who was almost the face of the CPP during his tenure as the Acting General Secretary indicated, he had decided to quit following the declaration he made because he had always been a strong advocate of the party’s principles.
“Me as the Acting General Secretary at the time, the one thing I was very keen on was enforcing of party’s principles,” Kabila said.
He added that his decision to quit the party doesn’t mean that he had joined another party.
“I have forfeited my membership of the CPP; it doesn’t make me a member of any party”.
