Joana Gyan Cudjoe Seeks to Unseat Amenfi Central MP on September 8 Primary

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Joana Gyan Cudjoe has vowed to unseat incumbent Member of Parliament Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah in the upcoming Amenfi Central parliamentary primary, which will be held on September 8.

Cudjoe, who initially won the party’s primary in 2023, had the results annulled by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Functional Executive Committee (FEC) due to a court dispute in Sekondi.

She now aims for a decisive victory, hoping to secure over 90 percent of the votes. Cudjoe believes her victory will strengthen the party’s grassroots support and help retain the seat in the December 7 general elections.

The FEC annulled the Amenfi Central parliamentary primaries conducted on May 13, 2023, and reopened nominations on September 6 for a rerun.

Five candidates, including the current MP Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah and former Amenfi Central MP George Kofi Arthur, have picked up nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra. These aspirants are expected to file and be vetted on September 7.

In an interview with Onua FM’s Etifi Nsem, Cudjoe expressed confidence in securing the endorsement of delegates despite the limited time available for the rerun.

She emphasized her regional achievements and dismissed concerns about the previous court injunctions and FEC’s decision to annul the earlier results.

“I know my delegates and believe that recent decisions against me will energize them to support me even more.

I was not disheartened by the court injunctions or the FEC’s decision,” Cudjoe stated.

As the CEO and Founder of Golden Empire Legacy Ltd, Cudjoe views the rerun as a fresh opportunity for party members to unite and build a stronger Amenfi Central.

She called for unity and commitment to the party’s shared vision of progress and development as it prepares for the December elections.
