Former Assin Central MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong has publicly clarified his apology to President John Dramani Mahama, citing political repercussions from past criticisms.

Speaking on Accra-based Pan African Television, Agyapong stated his harsh critiques of Mahama’s government were weaponized during his NPP leadership bid, framing him as unfit for presidential office.

“During the campaign, they wrote ten sins of Kennedy Agyapong,” he revealed, referencing internal party opposition. Agyapong acknowledged Mahama’s personal kindness toward him but admitted prioritizing party loyalty over their relationship.

“I apologized because [Mahama] has been very nice to me… I was harsh.” He emphasized his decision to refrain from further criticism, noting that future remarks could expand the “ten sins” narrative.

Though observing “several shortfalls” in the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Agyapong will withhold commentary to avoid providing ammunition against his political credibility.
