MCE for Yilo Krobo Lauds Gov’t For Significant Infrastructure Developments

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Yilo Krobo, Hon. Eric Tetteh, praised the government for the substantial infrastructure improvements within the municipality.

He was speaking in an exclusive interview at a capacity building workshop on election monitoring at Somanya.

Describing the developments as transformative, he expressed deep gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the progress made, particularly in road construction, education, and electrification.

“One of the major achievements that I would like to highlight is the massive infrastructure rollout by the government. For the first time in the history of our municipality, we are witnessing roads being constructed with paving blocks, such as the major road from Columbia to various communities. The general construction in many areas, including town roads, has significantly improved connectivity and accessibility,” Hon. Tetteh said.

He also noted that several communities, including those on the mountainous stretches, are benefiting from the improved road network, enhancing transportation and commerce.

Education and Electrification
Highlighting advancements in education, the MCE mentioned that the government has provided essential infrastructure to local schools that had been lacking for decades.

“The secondary school at Gbolo, which had no infrastructure since its establishment, now has new government-constructed blocks for boys and girls, as well as housing for staff. Similarly, Yilo Krobo Senior High School, which had not seen road improvements in 60 years, is now benefiting from major developments.”

Hon. Tetteh also mentioned the significant progress at Mount Mary College of Education and the construction of a multipurpose building at ASA, which is so impressive that it could be mistaken for a secondary school.

Additionally, he highlighted the government’s efforts in extending electricity to previously underserved communities, including the installation of solar power in remote, mountainous areas.

Opportunities for Investment
The MCE emphasized the potential for investment in Yilo Krobo, citing the municipality’s strategic location and favorable conditions for agriculture, particularly mango farming.

“The distance from here to Accra is just under one and a half hours, making it an ideal location for businesses looking to export goods via Kotoka International Airport. Our land is fertile, especially for mango cultivation, which can yield crops twice a year, offering better returns than other areas.”
Hon. Tetteh assured potential investors that the assembly is ready to support local economic development and create job opportunities for residents.

Political Climate and Challenges
Addressing the recent political atmosphere, Hon. Tetteh criticized the opposition Member of Parliament (MP) for Yilo Krobo for avoiding a public debate.

“For me, if you are confident in your achievements, you should be calling for debates. But if you run away, it suggests there are things you cannot defend in public,” he stated.

He also dismissed claims by some individuals attempting to take credit for various projects, emphasizing that the achievements were the result of the current government’s efforts.

“This government has been faithful to the people of Yilo Krobo, and the progress we’ve seen is a testament to that,” Hon. Tetteh concluded.

The MCE’s remarks highlight the significant strides made in infrastructure and development within Yilo Krobo, reinforcing the municipality’s growing importance as a hub for investment and growth in the Eastern Region.
