MP Alhassan Suhuyini Calls for President Akufo-Addo’s Resignation Over Galamsey Failure
Tamale North Member of Parliament Alhassan Suhuyini has criticized the current approach to combating illegal mining, asserting that signing a pact alone will not resolve the issue.
Suhuyini has called for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to resign, citing his previous commitment to risk his presidency in the fight against galamsey.
In a social media post, Suhuyini challenged the president’s effectiveness in addressing illegal mining, pointing to the continued degradation of water bodies despite promises of action.
He wrote, “Instead of calling for political parties to sign a galamsey pact, ask the president who promised to put his presidency on the line to RESIGN NOW! Or he can’t find the line? Stop the gimmicks and jokes; this is about lives and livelihoods. It’s about our collective survival.”
Suhuyini’s remarks highlight ongoing frustrations with the government’s handling of illegal mining and its impact on Ghana’s environment and public health.
