Gov’t claims Minority, Speaker frustrating e-levy total lies, they have chicken out - Dafeamekpor

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Dayi Constituency in the Volta Region, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has blamed the government for the gruesome murder of the police escort in the midst of the bullion van day light robbery at James Town in Accra.

That he said was because government must take the responsibility for his failure to fulfill promises to provide every policeman with security gears including bullet proof vest.

Speaking on TV3’s current affairs programme, the NewDay on Tuesday, June 15 monitored by GhanaPlus.com, the MP said it was unaccepted for personnel engaging in such dangerous duties to be without the necessary protective gears to safeguard their lives in case of any eventualities

“I will blame government because when you are place in a saddle every responsibility you bear”.

“Two (2) years ago the Vice President told as part of some of his rhetoric that every policeman will wear bullet proof.  I have seen the gentleman; I have seen the photographs he was in no bullet proof and it more paradoxical that an officer serving with SWAT will go on an operation without bullet proof vest”.

Crime has heighten

Mr Dafeamekpor decry heightened crimes in the country and quizzed why policemen and safety gears seem not to be in existence whenever the need be but different when it had to do with peaceful protesters and at incident and crime free places.

“When you promise at funeral of another slain officer that going forward all policemen on duty, he didn’t even differentiate so i will give him the benefit of the doubt that policemen on such dangerous circumstances wear body amour and another is slain….. When I decide to send a petition to the Electoral Commission they will find full amour hooded like Robocop to come and stop me but when we need those materials for someone who is guarding money collection they won’t find it,” he said.

He also lamented about the number of policemen deployed on the idle Volta Region route while same are required to protect lives in the crime prone cities.

“The problem is that just last week, a couple of days ago, armed men on a motor bike strike at the precinct of the Police Headquarters so is not a matter of police it a matter of the fact that insecurity has heightened. It shows our priority, we deployed men onto roads where nothing is happening on but when we looking for men to deal with arm robbers we don’t have and they say you should complain” he added.
