Vida Essel-LampteyThe Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam George Dzata has said that his constituents are aware of his responsibility as MP hence he doesn’t make promises of bringing development to them.
“One thing I have learnt to do from 2016 when I contested for the first time was not to make promises that are outside my remit. As a member of parliament, I always tell my people one thing when I meet them and is to ask them how do you say MP that In Ga-Dangme?, they say ‘Mmela worlor’ and when you translate it means lawmaker”.
“So I say to them I am a lawmaker, I am not an agent of development and so I don’t go promising development to my people” he added.
The Member of Parliament made the comment in an interview with Ghanaweb’s Election Desk in his office in Accra.
According to him, what he had promised his constituent since he took office was to lobby for development from authorities tasked with such responsibility other than making promises that were beyond his office.
“What I say to them is that, I will lobby for development from those whose responsibility it is to bring development, the central government,” Sam George Dzata said.
Sam George noted that although he was aware many aspiring MPs and even some sitting MPs result to promises of development which is outside their jurisdiction during campaigns, he had always done otherwise.
Lobbying for Development
Speaking about his achievement as far as lobbying for development was a concern, he said he had been able to facilitate the construction of several roads in the constituency.
On the personal level, Sam George said he had invested hugely in human development of his constituent out of which about 147 members were current benefiting from a full paid scholarships to pursue education at various levels including decrees, masters among others.
Others have also benefited from livelihood empowerment programmes instituted by his office, to provide them with skill training to improve the lives.
Sam George urged his constituent to vote massively for him and the NDC flag bearer, John Dramani Mahama adding that his works speak for itself.
