NPP Claims No Issues with Voter Register Ahead of December Election
Evans Nimako, the director of elections for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that the party has not found any discrepancies in the voters’ register in the lead-up to the December 7 elections.
This statement comes as the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) plans a nationwide protest against the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on September 13, Nimako stated, “We have not seen, for now, any transfer that has been unduly done.”
He emphasized that the main concern should be whether the register provided is usable for identifying voters and ensuring they cast their ballots on election day.
“It’s not an issue of discrepancy; it is an issue of the register given to you. Can you work with it to identify voters and get them to vote for your presidential candidate on election day?” Nimako added.
Nimako also addressed the NDC’s planned demonstration, calling it unnecessary.
He pointed out that during the tenure of former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei, the NPP did not protest despite a committee finding that over 580,000 individuals were incorrectly listed on the register.
“The New Patriotic Party did not jump onto the street,” Nimako said. “For us, it is clear in our minds that we will reach out to the voter.”
The NPP’s remarks come amid growing tensions over electoral transparency as the country prepares for the upcoming elections.
