NPP has a lot to do to retain power – Essilfie Kumi

Mr Bright Essilfie Kumi, a National Organiser aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the Party has “a lot of work” to do to be able to retain power in 2024.

The 2020 Parliamentary candidate for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, said the Party “is in darkness” and must work to win the support of Ghanaians to succeed in its quest to break the eight year cycle that has characterised the country’s political history since 1992.

“Breaking the 8 is just a slogan. You cannot break the 8 when your people are angry. The Party is in darkness and that’s why I am embarking on this mission to make NPP bright again,” he told journalists when he filed his nomination forms at the Party’s head office in Accra on Tuesday, June 14.

Mr Kumi said members of the NPP at the grassroots as well as Party financiers “are angry with the Party” due to what he described as “unfair distribution of opportunities.”

He said the amount of support that the NPP galvanised in 2016 had dwindled due to failure of the Party to duly recognise and appreciate its core supporters and financiers.

“The ground is currently not fertile. The people are not happy with the Party, and we must work to win their trust and support,” he said.

Mr Kumi said if he were given the mandate as National Organiser for the NPP, his regime would set up a database system that would ensure a fair distribution of opportunities for Party members and businessmen who invested in the Party.

He said the Database System Analysis would capture the names of Party members, when they joined the Party, their contributions to the Party, as well as record all the contributions of the Party’s financiers to ensure even distribution of opportunities.

He said he would also set up the National Communication Institute to train members in their own language at all levels to articulate the ideologies, achievements, and policies of the Party.

Mr Kumi said he would also work to globalise the Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) of the NPP to broaden the reach of the Wing and offer opportunities to the youth.

The NPP is expected to vet all the aspirants from June 17 to June 19, 2022, ahead of the National Executive Elections, scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium from July 15 to 17, 2022.
