New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has declared the party will boycott the July 11 parliamentary rerun in Ablekuma North’s 19 polling stations.

At a July 8 press conference, Kodua demanded the Electoral Commission (EC) comply with a January 4 High Court order to collate existing results instead.

“The court never authorized a rerun—it mandated collation and declaration,” Kodua stated, alleging the EC’s rerun decision constitutes contempt. The NPP claims documented evidence proves its candidate, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, won the original election. “We will not participate in any rerun. We’ve won,” Kodua emphasized.

The EC scheduled the rerun after failed collation attempts due to disruptions during vote counting. In response, Afriyie’s lawyers filed for certiorari at the High Court on July 8, seeking to quash the rerun and prohibit the July 11 exercise. The application argues the EC’s move violates the January ruling and electoral laws.
