Stephen Asamoah Boateng, former Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has cautioned the New Patriotic Party (NPP) against allowing its upcoming national delegates conference to devolve into factional campaigning.

Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3 FM on July 3, Boateng emphasized the need for “sober reflection” following the party’s 2024 electoral defeat, warning that premature flagbearer rallies could deepen internal divisions.

Boateng proposed postponing the conference unless leadership enforces strict neutrality, citing risks of banners and campaign tactics overshadowing reconciliation efforts. He urged prioritization of grassroots rebuilding and full implementation of the Mike Oquaye Committee’s electoral review recommendations. His intervention addresses mounting tensions within the opposition NPP as it regroups ahead of the 2028 elections under the Mahama administration.

The veteran member framed the conference as pivotal for party cohesion, stressing: “This day must focus on building the base, not ambitions.” The NPP has not yet responded publicly to his remarks.
