Cop Yohuno

Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a scathing attack on Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, accusing him of politicizing law enforcement and undermining the service’s integrity.

Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), the party’s National Organiser, declared the IGP “unfit for purpose” during a press briefing in Accra, citing alleged bias in handling recent cases.

“Under Yohuno, the police practice selective justice appalling and discriminatory,” Nana B stated. He highlighted unresolved incidents, including violence in Ablekuma North constituency and uninvestigated claims by NDC communicators linking NPP members to the August 6 helicopter crash.

“No arrests were made, yet NPP figures are targeted without evidence,” he asserted, noting that Ghana’s UK High Commissioner who suggested sabotage in the crash remains unsummoned.

Nana B contrasted this with the arrest of NPP supporter “Sir Obama” and the police’s inaction against Sansa Dale, who falsely claimed medical credentials to seek government appointment. “This IGP will be remembered as Ghana’s worst,” he concluded, urging reforms to restore public trust.

The allegations intensify scrutiny on Yohuno’s leadership amid lingering tensions following opposition arrests earlier this month. The Ghana Police Service has not yet responded.
