“We are not going to experiment on Saturday. Saturday is for business and we are going to the primaries with an informed position. We have considered what Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has done for Ablekuma West and we have also considered what Roni Nicol is claiming to have done in the constituency, and I can tell you that we are choosing experience over a beginner like Roni”
This is the position of majority of delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ablekuma West who are prepared for tomorrow’s parliamentary primaries of the party.
Indeed, the delegates have on several occasions made their positions known and are confidently insisting on their choice of candidate tomorrow.
According to them, they are not backing down on their support for Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (Incumbent Member of Parliament.
The decisions by delegates are borne out from several factors which they consider and which will inform their decisions tomorrow.
Speaking to delegates as well as supporters, they made it clear that the constituency which has been nurtured to this current status, is not ready for any “Try And Error” person.
According to them, Ablekuma West has come far with their incumbent MP and they have seen massive growth and development which they fear, could be destroyed should they made the mistake of choosing somebody else as MP.
They averred that Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has been tried and tested, and she has proven to be an “achiever” and a “reliable personality” whose shoulders the fortunes of the constituency can rest.
The delegates said that Hon. Ursula Owusu Ekuful’s track record is unmatched and such young people coming up to contest her cannot match her in any way.
According to the delegate, Roni Nicol will not and cannot be a better Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West and that the development which the constituents so much yearn for, have been delivered by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful and she has the capacity to do more.
“He claims he is well resourced, and experience, with the kind of work he claims he has done on the ground, which we cannot even see, giving him the opportunity to even contest on the ticket of the NPP means we are giving the seat out to the NDC.”
They are also of the view that, Ursula has built the constituency with her dedication, support to constituents and her charisma, political links and her ability to deliver, and that cannot be taken away from her.
“She has proven to be a leader who believes in the profound impact of her efforts, underscoring her self-confidence and as a rallying cry to us, her constituents to give her another term. Roni can do whatever he likes, we are not voting for him. Maybe he can try some other time when Ursula Owusu decides not to contest anymore; but for this election, Ursula all the way,” Another delegate said.
