The Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has revealed the Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is not in speaking terms with the majority group in the house.
He revealed his one time bosom friend also did not inform him and the leadership of the Majority of his recent trip and when he will return.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu noted unlike before, the only time he and the majority have any interaction with the speaker is during official meetings however, the speaker is in constant communication with the minority group.
The Majority leader made the revelation on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia on Monday, January 31, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
“Kwame the true is that we the leadership of the Majority is sine he return if it is not leadership meeting, or formal communication, the did not discuss anything with us. When he is going when he will return, he did not communicate anything to us but we know he communicate with the minority or the time,” he said.
“Not me as individual, all the majority, he doesn’t speak to us about anything. If you will hear anything is from the minority,” he emphasized.
Majority leader, Speaker’s friendship
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin and the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu have been long known to be best of friends, however, current development in Ghana’s Parliament seem to have affected the one time beautiful friendship that existed between them.
The Majority Leader, some few weeks ago while Speaker Bagbin was out the country on a medical trip accused him of being in cohort with the Minority, the reason for his seeming lack of interest in ensuring the approval of government proposed electronic transaction levy, (e-levy).
He also accused him of acting in bad faith as long as the e-levy was concerned because government failed to meet his demand of GH¢1.72 billion allocation to Parliament, a development which the speaker did not find it pleasing.
E-levy Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s accusations
“Distinguished colleagues, I told you that some clergy men, the cream of Christendom in the country have met me and I am not going to speak for a long time but the people of this country should know what is leading all of us into this crisis,” Kyei Mensah-Bonsu said.
“GH¢1.72 billion for what? He says that he has information that the total revenue of this country was going to be GH¢89 billion and that the Finance Minister should give him 2 percent of it and that works to GH¢1.72 billion,” he added.
“If he doesn’t give Parliament GH¢1.72 billion, then his budget is going to be thrown out. He was going to make sure the budget is rejected,” Kyei Mensah-Bonsu told the media at a press conference.
