Swedru Market Women of NPP Threaten Legal Action Against Agona West MP

The Swedru Market Women Caucus of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened court action against the Agona West Member of Parliament, Mrs Cynthia Mamle Morrison, if she used party colours for her bid as an Independent Parliamentary Candidate on December 7.
They have also decided to haul her before the Swedruman Council of Chiefs to explain her decision “to ditch the party after eight years as an MP.”
According to the Women Caucus, the MP had no legal right to use the colours of the party as her symbol to contest the election as Independent candidate because it was against the constitution of the party.
Addressing a press conference at Agona Swedru to vent their anger against the MP, Madam Akua Atta, spokesperson of the Group, said they were shocked and dismayed about the behaviour of the MP.
On Tuesday, September 10, the MP, who lost the parliamentary primary in April this year, filed her nomination forms with the Electoral Commission to contest as Independent Candidate in Agona West.
Madam Atta said Mrs Morrison became the MP for Agona West when she defeated Mr Samuel Kweku Obodai, the then MP in the 2016 parliamentary primary, which the latter took in good faith and never went solo.
Madam Atta said the same women caucus of the NPP stood firmly behind Mrs Morrison and queried: “What has changed for the MP to contest parliamentary election as independent after a level playing field to partake in the primary was given?”
The spokesperson also cautioned the MP to stop maligning and blackmailing the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, Mr Chris Arthur, with malicious allegations.
‘’What is happening in Agona West is unacceptable and we call on regional and national executive committee of the hierarchy to intervene as a matter of urgency’’ Madam Attah said.
Madam Attah alleged that the MP had more than 10 school feeding programme slots, which she had given to friends and cronies and called on her to reverse them to the constituency executives for breaking away from the party.
