Gushegu MP Hassan Tampuli has asserted no legal requirement compels former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to physically appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), defending Ofori-Atta’s request for virtual interrogation.

Speaking on Channel 1 Television, Tampuli argued that physical appearances represent historical convention rather than legal obligation in the digital era.

“There is no law anywhere that says he must appear in person,” Tampuli stated, emphasizing alternative options. “He can speak to them on phone, engage via video link. The OSP could utilize the Mutual Legal Assistance Act to travel internationally if physical presence becomes essential.” He characterized the OSP’s insistence on physical presence as outdated, noting, “You can’t use absence as unreachability when digital access exists.”

Tampuli’s comments follow the OSP’s declaration of Ofori-Atta as wanted after he missed a June 2 deadline for physical appearance. The OSP maintains its position despite Tampuli’s interpretation of legal protocols, highlighting a deepening standoff over investigative procedures for high-profile figures.
