A Senior Lecturer of the University of Professional Studies(UPS) in Accra, Dr Kwaku Mensah Mawutor has asked the opposition National Democratic Congress Members of Parliament(MPs) to consider leaving parliament if they will not help with the governance of the country.

Speaking on Pan African Television’s  Good Morning Africa on Monday, May 12 monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the MPs were being paid from revenues generated from taxes paid by  citizens and  have a responsibility to contribute to their development and welfare.

“Then tell them to leave parliament, tell NDC to leave parliament, no no tell NDC to leave Parliament because the taxes I pay every month part of  it is used to pay this man’s salary sitting here, so tell them they should leave parliament if they don’t want to be part of government,”  Dr Mawutor said in response to a comment made by the host that according to the NDC, the NPP should fix the problems because they were in power and not the NDC.

He was speaking about the #FixTheCountry campaign which had been running for weeks on Ghanaian social media to demand accountability and a paradigm shift in the country’s governance system.

The University Lecturer noted it would be in the interest of the NDC to profess appropriate strategies to help government fix the country as demanded by the teaming youth on social media adding the NDC would be unable to fix anything if they win power when the country’s economy was already in ruins.

“What will the NDC gains as a party if everything destroyed before they are given the mandate.  Trust me they will all come and increase taxes. They will push as so hard so you are better off recommending very appropriate strategies to government”.

Fixing Ghana is a collective responsibility

Dr Mensah Mawutor indicated it was time Ghanaians, most especially, the two leading political parties realized that fixing the country was a collective responsibility and put their heads and ideas together for the sake of the country and posterity.

“ They should not say that, we will have to ensure that we all involved in governing this country. When it comes to development, we have to agree to disagree that it is our country,” he said.
