US Finance Professor Endorses NPP’s Green Energy Policy, Suggests Potential Benefits for Ghana

Williams Kwasi Peprah, an associate professor of finance at Andrews University in Michigan, has endorsed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) green energy policy, suggesting that if effectively implemented, it could bring substantial benefits to Ghana.
During an appearance on the Asaase Breakfast Show on August 26, Peprah praised the NPP’s green energy strategy for its potential to diversify the country’s energy mix and align with the party’s broader goal of reducing the cost of living.
“Green energy, if truly implemented, could significantly benefit Ghana by helping to reduce the energy mix,” Peprah stated.
“I hope it will lead to a reduction in costs, which aligns with the NPP’s manifesto of lowering the cost of living.”
Peprah also commented on the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘s energy strategy, which currently emphasizes hydro and thermal power. He suggested that the NDC might need to reconsider its approach and include solar energy if it wins the upcoming elections.
“The NDC has traditionally focused on hydro and thermal power projects, such as the Takoradi plant, T1 and T2 projects, and expansions at Akosombo and Bui dams,” Peprah noted. “Given the evolving energy landscape, I wouldn’t be surprised if the NDC adjusts their policy to incorporate solar power into their planning if they come into power.”
Peprah’s comments highlight the ongoing debate over Ghana’s energy strategy and the potential impact of adopting green energy solutions.
