We can’t write Ghana’s history without Nkrumah’s name in Gold – NPP’s George Ayisi

The New Patriotic Party(NPP) Communication team member and Public Relations officer of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr George Ayisi has said Ghana’s history cannot be written without the name of its first Prime Minister and  President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah written in gold.

That he said was because Dr Kwame Nkrumah played a significant role both in the country’s pre and post independent era.

“I think it’s a good thing and let honour him he has played a great role in our independent and post independent, the building of our nation Ghana, you cannot do anything or write the history of Ghana without name of Osagyefo written in gold,” he said.

Mr Ayisi made the comment while speaking about the ‘Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day’, a public holiday observed by Ghanaians on Tuesday, September 21 to celebrate Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of the country for leading the country’s independent and its development thereafter.

According to him, it was important for the country to recognized and celebrate its heroes death and alive to inspire the younger generation to equally do same for the country.

“I think yesterday was a great day, so let continue to honour our heroes both alive and death so that others will pick it up as a challenge to them to do their best for Ghana,” he said on TV3 NewDay on Wednesday, September 22, monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

Ghana marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day

Ghanaians across the country, on Tuesday, September 21 marked Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day to commemorate, the Ghana’ s first Prime Minister and President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

The statutory public holiday is celebrated on September 21st annually, the birthday of the Ghanaian leader to celebrate his numerous contributions to the development of the country, many of which are being enjoyed by present generation.

The day was formally celebrated as ‘Founder’s Day’ but changed to ‘Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day’ through the New Public Holidays Act passed by Ghana’s Parliament in 2018 to celebrate the Ghanaian leader whose visionary leadership saw Ghana attain independent from its colonial masters the British on March 6, 1957 and a republican status on July 1, 1960.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day is marked with lectures and several events to celebrate the legacies and achievements of the man who was overthrown in 1966.
