NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) is currently unwell but remains committed to cooperating with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), according to his lawyer Andy Appiah-Kubi.

The disclosure follows Wontumi’s June 2 release from EOCO custody regarding an undisclosed investigation, which prevented him from honoring a scheduled Criminal Investigations Department (CID) appearance.

“Due to the arrest circumstances, we couldn’t attend the CID invitation,” Appiah-Kubi stated on Asaase Radio. “I will formally notify CID about his health condition and seek adjournment until recovery.” He confirmed ongoing cooperation: “Investigations continue, and we’ll prepare for court when required. We’ll return tomorrow to complete inquiries.”

The health update coincides with NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua’s separate challenge to government investigators. Speaking after Wontumi’s release, Kodua demanded: “If they allege wrongdoing, take our people to court instead of intimidation. We’re prepared to mount legal defenses.” Kodua characterized recent actions against party members as legally unsubstantiated, claiming: “This persecution indicates insufficient evidence for lawful prosecution.”

The developments highlight escalating tensions between Ghana’s opposition party and law enforcement agencies amid undisclosed financial probes involving senior political figures.
