You are only a caretaker, listen to us – Kwame Jantuah tells Gov’t

A member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah has asked the government to pay heed to concerns of Ghanaians who voted them into power.

Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Friday, May 13, he said power belongs to the people and that makes the government only a caretaker hence the need for them to listen to the actual owners of the power bestowed on them.

 …Unfortunately, the empathy from this government is questionable to me, I know it might not be for everybody but to me it is questionable because the people you are ruling are the people who voted you into power and you got to listen to them. They are the government, you are the caretaker and you are there to serve me, am not there to serve you and so if you have come and you have promised me, you have taken my job from me and you promised me and you haven’t fulfill the promise, what do you expect me to do, ” Mr Jantuah lamented on the programme monitored by GhanaPlus.com.

Affected toll booth workers picket at Minister of Transport

 The renowned politician made the comment when contributing to discussions on the picketing of affected toll worker at the Ministry of Roads and Transport in Accra.

The workers numbering some 800 stormed the offices of the Transport Ministry on Thursday, May 12 over their unpaid salaries some five months after the closure of the country’s toll booths.

The picketing was also in connection with government failure to re-assign them as announced by the Minister of Finance in the 2022 Budget Statement presented to Parliament on November 17, 2021.

 They lament life have been unbearable following the decision which saw them out of job nearly six months now.

Kwame Jantuah on toll booth closure

 Mr Jantuah described the closure of the toll booth and its subsequent development as disgusting and questioned the government’s empathy towards the plight of the people especially, the workers, most of whom are living with some form of disabilities.

 “The road toll issue for me if I can use the word is disgusting for me. First of all how can you make people unemployed and not compensate them when you said you will compensate them. The actual way it should be done is one, you decide that this is what you going to do, there should be a pot of money there which you will use to pay them off. Six month down the line, you have taken my job from me,” Mr Jantuah said.
