National Youth Organiser of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Osei Kofi Acquah has slammed the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency , Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu following the near attack he suffered at Suame Magazine.
Speaking on Pan African TV on Tuesday, July 19, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said, he has been an MP of the constituency for some 26years but has not been able to lobby for even one factory for the area.
According to him, every metal at Ghana’s industrialized zone also said to be the largest in West Africa is worth value and the MP should have capitalized on it to change the fortunes of the area.
Osei Kofi Acquah said the MP has done a disservice to the constituency which he has represented for many years.
He was of the view, the attack was deserving for letting down his people.
“I keep saying that Hon Kyei Mensah-Bonsu have been a very big disservice to the people of Suame. This government launched a flagship programme called one district, one factory. Go to Suame, where almost every metal is of monetary values and ask if Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu was able to lobby for just apotoyowa(earthenware bowl) or even dadesen (cooking pot) factory for them?…. and I ask myself why?,” he Osei Kofi Acquah said.
“Every piece of metal is of monetary value at Suame. People buy scrapes, they fabricate car parts and all those things and people even have machines that they imported themselves and they are into this production. When this government decided to set up factories in every district as they put it across the country. Hon Kyei Mensah-Bonsu who has been an MP, a Member of Parliament, representing the people of Suame for 26years could not lobby for Suame to get iron rod factory. Could not lobby for them to get a wheelbarrow factory. Could not lobby for them to get bolt and nut factory. Could not lobby for any factory to be set up at a place where automobile is the business of the people and is not only the business of people of Suame but the biggest of the whole of West Africa, what do you expect?,” he lamented .
“The pelting of stones he got is nothing… because the people are angry. The people are angry,”the CPP politician said.
Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu pelted with sachet what at Suame Magazine
Mr Acquah made the comment while reacting to a near attack on the Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu at Suame Magazine, an industrialized area in the Ashanti Region on Monday, July 18.
The MP who also doubles as the Member of Parliament for the Suame Constituency had visited the business hub to speak to leaders over poor roads in the area and plans made to continue works on the project which stalled half way during its construction.
However, angry artisans of the hub pelted sachet water, hoot at him and chase him away.
It took the intervention of the Ghana Police Service to whisk the MP into a Police Vehicle for safety.
Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the leader of government business in Parliament later met leadership of the market for discussions.
