Vida Essel-LampteyThe Member of Parliament –Elect of the Tamale Central Constituency, Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala has taken a swipe at TV3, a subsidiary of Media General over its wrong projection of the parliamentary results of the just ended 2020 elections.
The television station had projected a 149 parliamentary win for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 elections prior to the Electoral Commission’s declaration on Wednesday, December 9.
Speaking on TV3’s current affairs programme, NewDay on Monday, December 14, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, the former Deputy Trade and Industry Minister said the development was unacceptable adding that the station had thrown its year’s long reputation to the dogs over the development.
Heads will roll, if I were TV3’s Management
He indicated that if he was to be in the realm of affairs at the media entity, persons behind the wrong predictions would have been sacked by now indicating, if the station was able to sack its former anchor, Nana Aba Anamoah over mere pictures, then he could not fathom why those behind the degrading prediction were still at post.
“If I were the management of this station, heads will roll; if I were the management of this station, the credibility of this station has been thrown to the dogs, if you monitor social media people are extremely outrageous”.
He query the basis on which a station like TV3 made the projection of whooping 149 win of the parliamentary seats for the NPP when even the Electoral Commission was not privy to such information.
“Nana Addo lost bitterly in this year’s elections, even though you people called it for the NPP and even gave the NPP an outrageous 149 seat” he said.
“Your so called election headquarters said emphatically, I watch even the video this morning that we can confidently say that the NPP has won 149 seats. On what basis were you making those calls. You don’t project out of nothing, if you are claiming that everything you said here is what you got from EC, EC never said NPP won 149. What did Nana Aba Anamoah do and she was fired, just a picture, someone must answer,” he MP-Elect bemoan.
TV3 Project 149 Parliamentary wins for NPP, 126 for NDC
TV3, a subsidiary of Media General projected 149 win of the Parliamentary polls for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and 126 for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The media house has since come under intense criticism over the projections after all other media a houses, political parties and most especially, the Electoral Commission‘s figures says otherwise.
