7 things you need to know about Tems’ Grammy win
Last night, the music world witnessed a historic moment as Nigerian singer Tems took home the prestigious Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance.
Her song “Love Me Jeje” captivated the audience and earned her a second Grammy, solidifying her position as one of Africa’s most influential artists.
Here are seven things you need to know about this remarkable achievement:
1. Winning Song: Tems won the Best African Music Performance award for her song “Love Me Jeje”. The song was produced by Ghanaian producer Guilty Beatz.
2. Competition: “Love Me Jeje” triumphed over strong contenders like Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake & Wizkid’s “MMS,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” featuring Davido & Lojay, and Burna Boy’s “Higher”.
3. Second Grammy: This is Tems’ second Grammy win. She previously won a Grammy in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance for her collaboration on Future’s “Wait For U” featuring Drake.
4. Historic Win: Tems is the first Nigerian artist to win the Best African Music Performance category. This category was introduced last year, with South African singer Tyla winning the inaugural award.
5. Other Nominations: Besides her win, Tems was also nominated for Best Global Music Album for “Born in the Wild” and Best R&B Song for “Burning,” but she didn’t win in these categories.

6. Acceptance Speech: During her acceptance speech, Tems expressed gratitude to her team, her mother (whose birthday is today), and God. She highlighted how this win was a significant milestone in her career.
