Agya Koo recounts personal life-saving experience at KATH
Ghanaian actor and comedian, Kofi Adu, popularly known as Agya Koo, has expressed his commitment to actively support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s “Heal Komfo Anokye” project.
Agya Koo revealed that the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) played a crucial role in saving his life during his childhood, and he is determined to ensure the success of the project aimed at renovating the hospital.
Recalling his personal experience at KATH, Agya Koo recounted a time from his youth when he was brought to the hospital for medical treatment.
He vividly remembered the challenging circumstances and emphasized that if not for KATH, he might not be alive today. He expressed concern for the hospital’s current state and pledged to use his influence to generate widespread awareness and support for the project.
Addressing the audience at the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project launch led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Agya Koo shared the emotional story of surviving at KATH while others around him succumbed to their illnesses. He acknowledged the importance of the initiative in addressing the hospital’s pressing needs and promised to engage in continuous publicity efforts.
Agya Koo declared his intention to contribute both time and financial resources to the project, emphasizing that he would dedicate significant efforts to raising awareness and funds.
He emphasized the critical role played by KATH as the major referral health facility in the Ashanti region, serving patients from 12 out of the country’s 16 regions.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II had launched the “Heal Komfo Anokye Project,” aiming to raise US$10 million through public fundraising to renovate the 70-year-old in-patient wards at KATH. Reports indicated that the hospital had not undergone significant refurbishment in many years, leading to structural issues in various sections of the building.
