Backstreet Boys star Brian Littrell joins son Baylee for an emotional ‘American Idol’ audition
The season 23 premiere of American Idol was packed with surprises, but one of the most memorable moments came when 50-year-old Backstreet Boys singer Brian Littrell accompanied his son, Baylee Littrell, for an emotional audition.
Baylee, 22, took a bold step by performing an original song titled Waiting On Myself To Die. His heartfelt performance resonated with the judges, especially American Idol alum and country star Carrie Underwood, who was quick to shower him with praise.
“You’re really good, like, really good,” Carrie said. “I loved the song, and that’s a risk too, when people come in singing their own songs.
“That was great, and you went there emotionally, and I think you could go very, very far in this competition.”
Country star and longtime Idol judge Luke Bryan was equally impressed and made a special request—asking Baylee and his father, Brian, to sing together.
The moment turned into a touching family duet, showcasing the musical bond between father and son.
Backstage, Brian Littrell couldn’t hold back his emotions as he reflected on his son’s journey. “We’re super proud. He’s obviously grown up in the business,” Brian said, visibly choked up. “You know, I think he’s cut out for it.”
Baylee’s performance earned him four resounding yes votes, securing his spot in the next round of the competition and a coveted Golden Ticket to Hollywood.
After the episode aired, Brian took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, writing:
“Congrats @bayleelittrell_music on an incredible premiere with @americanidol. I am so proud of you Bubba – can’t wait to see you in #Hollywood!! #GoldenTicket #BayleeLittrell #BayleeOnIdol.”
