Chicago rapper Parkay ButtaBoy shot dead
Chicago’s rap scene has been hit with yet another tragedy as Parkay ButtaBoy, a respected name in the city’s underground hip-hop community, was shot and killed on March 24, 2025.
The 42-year-old artist was reportedly sitting in his car near South Sangamon Street in Englewood when an unidentified gunman approached and opened fire.
Eyewitnesses say Parkay was ambushed while parked, and the shooter fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to the University of Chicago Hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Parkay, a longtime member of Bump J’s Goon Squad, made a name for himself with his raw storytelling and authentic street anthems.
Over the years, he remained a prominent figure in Chicago’s hip-hop culture, earning respect from both fans and fellow artists.
Following the news of his death, social media has been flooded with tributes from artists, friends, and supporters, many describing him as a legend in the underground rap scene.
Some have also called for justice while urging authorities to take swift action in identifying those responsible.
Police have yet to make any arrests but are actively investigating the shooting. They are urging anyone with information to come forward.
